CodeRED - Battle For Earth is a standalone 3D first person shooter crafted from the original source code of Quake II, released by id Software under the GNU license. With features including 32 bit graphics, new particle engine and effects, hi resolution textures and skins, hi poly models, stain maps, CodeRED pushes the envelope of graphical beauty rivaling todayÆs top games.
The game features a Single Player mode, including over 20 large levels, over a dozen powerful enemies, 8 weapons of mass destruction, and 3 distinct episodes. With a campy sci-fi atmosphere inspired by such classic fare as War of the Worlds, 2001 Space Odyssey, and Mars Attacks, the player will take a nostalgic trip through a familiar world with the patented COR Entertainment vision and twisted imagery.
Of course what would a good sci-fi game be without some good old fashioned multi player options? Deathmatch, coop and teamplay are all supported, and highly encouraged.

3. GETTING STARTED
1. INSTALLATION
Installation has been made very simple. After downloading, simply click on the codered1_0.exe file and the installation will begin. Follow the instructions of the Installshield setup program. If you are running Windows 2000 or XP, you should have administrative privileges. If not, you may get some errors when the program tries to write the uninstall information to the registry. If so, simply click ôignoreö, and the installation will continue without problem.
Once finished, you can click on either the xtremecr.exe or the litecr.exe file in your new CodeRED folder, depending on your system. It is recommended that you try xtremecr.exe first, and if gameplay is too slow, or your 3D accelerator cannot handle it, then try the litecr.exe which will work on older cards and slower systems.
2. BASIC COMMANDS
CodeRED works very much like Quake 2, with a few notable exceptions.
The player will have the following weapons:
1. Blaster
2. Alien Disruptor
3. Pulse Rifle
4. Flame Thrower
5. Homing Rocket Launcher
6. Rocket Launcher
7. Alien Smart Gun
8. Disruptor
9. Laser Cannon
The player will also have a flashlight, which is always present, and very useful. The ôFö key activates and de-activates the flashlight.
3. SINGLE PLAYER OBJECTIVES
The object of the game is to find the alien leader and destroy him. You will begin at your station on the Riker Containment Facility, an underground research area/prison below a city that was once Seattle, Washington. You will be transported to the surface to assist the United Resistance Front troops who are already there and waging war against alien invaders.
There are three episodes, each with a specific goal.
Episode One - War On Earth
YouÆll begin at the surface in sector 14. The URF has troops here, and they are losing badly. YouÆll need to gather them, and proceed to the industrial zone, sector 11, to meet with Commander Braddock.
Episode Two - The Outlands
This is a post mech war wasteland, and youÆll be searching for Braddock here. YouÆll also be looking for any clues as to where the aliens may be, or have gone.
Episode Three - Revenge!
You are now on the alien home planet (Mars possibly?), and itÆs time for a little payback. YouÆll search for the command center, free the captured soldiers, and destroy the alien leader.
COMPLETING LEVELS
Generally, youÆll be searching for an exit door to proceed to the next level. Sometimes youÆll need to find access keys, or control panels to open areas or doors, but other times you may need to complete a specific task, such as disabling a weapon or leading URF troops to safety.
HEALTH AND AMMO
Generally, these are not just lying around randomly. YouÆll need to open storage lockers, or room containing these items. Weapons are generally found near dead URF troops or aliens.
FRIENDLY TROOPS
Most URF troops are friendly. Killing one of these guys will result in a deduction of health points. Some are not. It will be up to you to determine who is on your side and who is not.
ENEMIES
You can visit the webpage for a more detailed look at the enemies. Here is a small rundown.
1. Alien - unarmed
2. Alien Soldier
3. Alien Assassin
4. Alien General
5. Saucer
6. Transport
7. Alien Robot
8. Alien War Machine
9. Alien Ray Gun Turret
10. Alien Leader
11. Small Mech
12. Large Mech
13. Hostile URF Soldier
14. Hostile URF Heavy Weapons Officer
4. DEATHMATCH
Deathmatch works much like Quake II deathmatch, but using the CodeRED weapons and models. There are 3 separate DM models included with CodeRED:
1. Martian - two skins (soldier and assassin)
2. Human - two skins (Hicks and Johnson)
3. Chulgon (a mysterious alien warrior)
4 maps have been set up for deathmatch
E1m1 - Sector 14 (medium sized city level, includes rocket launcher, flame thrower, pulse rifle and alien disruptor)
E1m4 - The Industrial Zone (Very large, includes pulse rifle, disruptor, homing rocket launcher, and alien smart gun)
E3m2 - Jaba City, Outer Docks (Medium sized, includes pulse rifle, disruptor, and rocket launcher, quad damage)
E3m4 - The Gauntlet (Small level, includes laser cannon, homing rocket launcher, and quad damage)
5. THE FAMKE BOT
Included in the game is Rich WhitehouseÆs famous bot, the Famke. I have revamped some of the code to make it work with CodeRED. This is a very good, very tough bot, as many of you may already know.
Because some of the code was not released by Rich, a couple of things such as names of weapons and weapon hot keys do not work or appear correct. To change weapons, youÆll need to hit the weapon cycle key ô/ö rather than itÆs number.
There are detailed instructions in the FAMKEBOT folder under your main CodeRED folder.
4. CREDITS
There is a long list of credits - CodeRED is greatly indebted to the following for itÆs creation and completion:
Design: John Diamond, Courtney Michaels, Victor Luchits
Programming: John Diamond, Victor Luchits
Models and skins: John Diamond
Maps: John Diamond, Charles Whitlock, Chet Hamel
Textures: John Diamond, Charles Whitlock, Chet Hamel, Rorshach, Thomas ôqfraggelö Creutzenberg, Strangefate, Francois-Xavier (Ogro)
Sounds: John Diamond, Little Music Club
Famke Bot: Rich Whitehouse
I would like to thank especially those that have provided free content, such as textures and sounds, which are instrumental in making this game what it is. I would also like to thank that crazy Russian guy, Vic for his code contributions and other suggestions. Without him, not only would this thing run a lot slower, but a number of cool features would not be present.
Lastly I would like to thank my fiance, Courtney Michaels, who not only was patient enough to allow me to work on this for many hours, but provided many suggestions and ideas over the course of time. She also was responsible for kicking my butt in deathmatch a few times J I love you honeyà
